Free Dental Care For Those Who Live In California

friendshelpingfriends started this conversation

If you live in California, this is a possibility for getting FREE dental care if you do not have the means to pay for it.  You will need to go to their site to fill out the application for this service.

Here is the link to their site:

http://www.cdva.ca.gov/news/DocAndImages/Donated%20Dental%20Services%20Application.pdf

CALIFORNIA DONATED DENTAL SERVICES (DDS)
In response to your recent inquiry about the availability of free or low-cost dental
care, we are pleased to provide the following information about the Donated Dental
Services (DDS) program.

ELIGIBILITY: Dentists in California have volunteered to provide comprehensive
dental care at no charge to people of all ages who, because of a
serious disability, advanced age, or medical problems, lack
adequate income to pay for needed dental care. There are no rigid
financial eligibility requirements.

COST: There is generally no cost to qualifying individuals; however,
people in a position to pay for part of their care may be encouraged
to do so, especially when laboratory work is involved.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:
Step One please complete, sign, and return the enclosed application,
Step Two when your application comes up for review, a referral coordinator
will call to obtain additional information (those who don't qualify
will be told so during the call),
Step Three the referral coordinator will share the information about a person
tentatively accepted with a volunteer dentist,
Step Four you will be notified of the dentist's name and phone number and
you will be responsible for scheduling an appointment for an
examination. Final acceptance into the program will only be made
after the clinical examination when the specific treatment needs are
established.
Upon receipt, your application will be recorded and filed. Please be patient; due to
program limitations, we are not able to process each application as soon as it is
received. The referral coordinator will contact you when your application comes up
for review.

in response to jwakca13...   Hi, I dont want to scare you, but have worked in a hospital and people die from abscessed teeth..its poison that can get into your blood stream...I would try to find a public hospital that has to take you..and tell the ER staff that you are in extreme pain, they will see the abscess and prescribe antibiotics..this will localize the infection and prevent spreading..I have had abcesses before and drained them myself but dont recommend it..you will be very ill if you swallow any of the infection..advil or motrin will help with any pain..then you need to get the root canal..I would look for a dentist willing to work with you if you fear them, then a dental school may be not the way to go.they are still learning and practicing...hopefully this will give you time to find a reputable school. Im sorry Im all the way in Northern CA and not familiar with Southern Ca anymore..but hope this helps

HELP!! I've Bern told I may have an abscessed tooth and may need a root canal. I'm uninsured and need any recommendation on a reputable, but fairly priced dentist in the LA area. I'm pretty desperate. I've heard to check dental schools etc. Is this a good idea and which ones? I've had extensive dental problems and wrk done over the last 2years, and will be making payments for a long time. I'm new to CA, fear dentists, and financially strapped.. Please help!!

 in response to toothless wonder...

Hello and sorry to hear about your dental problems..it is such a painful thing to endure..I notice you are in the 925 area code and wanted to tell you about a clinic in Stockton I have gone to. They are pretty reasonable and usually work with you to make payment arrangements. Also on this page are other clinics that may be closer to you in the bay. Using a dental school is often way cheaper than a dentist office as they are students under a dentist supervision but they did really good work and at a fraction of the cost. Maybe you can get a little done at a time. I wish you luck and Merry Christmas

 in response to memesiam2...   Hello!
Your situation is so much like my daughter's and she says the same things you say - that she is sick of being sick. You are almost the same age too. This area is so remote that it attracts only the worst of medical providers. My son-in-law was hospitalized last week and given a 3-day course of Vancomycin, which is grossly inadequate and served only to suppress his symptoms and cause them to flare again - worse than before. Word around town is that his physician, who is 67, is senile. My son-in-law was discharged from the hospital in exremely poor physical condition. (I am a retired RN.)
I phoned Denti-Cal, the dental care branch of Medi-Cal. I was told that Denti-Cal would pay for my daughter's extractions, but not for dentures. The first dentist she saw should not have charged her for the x-rays, and that money will eventually be refunded. I took her to the dentist they recommended. Last week she had some of the teeth extracted and on Wednesday the rest will be removed. She is terrified because all of her teeth are impacted and they are still infected. She has been "practicing" learning how to speak without showing that she will be toothless. I will continue to search for a way to get dentures for her. I won't give up until I succeed.
Thank you for your kind thoughts. I pray for you too.

in response to Sad Senior Lady...   Hi Sad Senior Lady,
I was on here searching for solutions for my own dental care, I am a 52 yr old and cannot remember the last time I was able to smile... I am sick & tired of being sick & tired of being scared to go to the dentist as now the teeth I have in my mouth will have to all be removed or I will loose them from the rotting out of my mouth. I found SmileCare Dental Office www.smilecare.com & I made an appt. online to go in for implant or denture consultation - they have a low cost proceudre & also offer payment options (who knows they may be able to help those of us who cant afford dental work as well) It's at least the time to check them out or give them a call. I pray that you find a way to help your loved ones. God Bless you

Can anyone help? My 51 year old daughter's family is in a tragic situation. Her husband is at death's door with systemic MRSA. We are currently trying to find a way to get him to U.C. Davis where he will probably stay until he dies. She is disabled with psoriatic arthritis and fibromyalgia. She was prescribed prednisone for so long that her teeth have rotted out of her head. They are both on SSI income only.
She went to the local dentist this afternoon and is currently locked in her bathroom, crying uncontrollably. They told her that she needs 11 surgical extractions and then dentures - all at a cost of $5,000.00 which is more than any of us could possibly pay. I help my daughter and her family as much as I can, but I am 76 years old and on Social Security myself.
Medi-Cal pays for their medical care but last year without warning Medi-Cal discontinued dental benefits for adults. We live in a remote area in California, 50 miles northwest of Reno, Nevada.
I am pleading for someone to tell us where to find help. My once beautiful daughter's suffering is breaking my heart.
